The Arsenal boss believes Oxlade-Chamberlain should recover from a knock in time for the final match of the 2013 pre-season Asia Tour.
The Englishman sat out Monday’s 3-1 victory over Nagoya Grampus after excelling in some of the opening fixtures including a wonder-goal against Vietnam, but hopes to be back in action for Friday’s final game in Japan against Urawa Reds.
Wojciech Szczesny and Laurent Koscielny also joined the midfielder on the treatment table, the former looks as likely as the Ox to play while Kosicleny is not so lucky.
Wenger revealed on Arsenal’s website:
Koscielny is a big doubt. Oxlade-Chamberlain should be alright, Szczesny should be alright as well. I say 80 per cent Chamberlain and Szczesny and maybe 30 per cent for Koscielny. It’s a minor ankle problem.
Japanese fans will be happy to hear the Ox’s likelihood of involvement is looking positive as he is one of the most popular young lads. He has also excited on tour so far this summer with some thrilling bursting runs that have set the crowd alight, plus the experience he is gaining will help to develop his game.
The youngster is becoming a very handy attacking midfielder and could look to play more centrally this season similarly to how he ended the last campaign. This looks set to be an exciting season for the England international.
