Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is looking forward to Tuesday’s vital tie against Everton and sees it as a big opportunity to increase the gap between their top four rivals.
The Englishman starred in the weekends 3-1 comeback victory when he was introduced after 80 minutes, claiming the assist for the winner after a Wilshere-like burst into the box. The win moved the Gunners into third, and the Ox has praised his team that demonstrated a fighting spirit to score three times in the last six minutes.
While the midfielder feels they have the belief from their previous experiences of squeezing into the top four, Oxlade-Chamberlain feels the match against the Toffees at Emirates Stadium will provide another great opportunity for Arsenal to “stamp they’re authority” in the bid for a Champions League place.
The 19-year-old told Arsenal’s official website:
That typifies us at the moment. We really have built that team spirit, solidarity and winning mentality. We never give up until it’s over,” he said.
To come back from a goal down in the last few minutes is brilliant and it gives us a massive boost, massive confidence and a massive three points looking forward to the end of the season.
We just want to win every game that comes our way. That’s the best way to put pressure on the teams around us. We can’t worry about what they’re doing and what their results are. We can only control our own results.
We looked after that against Norwich and now it will be another tough game against Everton on Tuesday.
You can’t get caught up looking around at other teams in the table. You have to concentrate on yourselves and on the next match because it can all change very quickly.
We have to focus on each game as it comes and Everton is another big one for us and another good opportunity for us to stamp our authority.
It helps to know that we managed to squeeze in last season for the Champions League in the way that we did,” he said. “If you look at Wigan and the way they stayed up last season then I’m sure the confidence and belief in their camp is high.
That’s what it does for a squad. Previous experiences can help you and contribute to the way that you feel the season afterwards. The fact that we did it last season definitely helps our confidence to do it again this time.
